First Time Decrypting: Error Message

Hi all-

So I’m attempting to decrypt a file using Kleopatra.

I’m receiving the following error message:

gpg: WARNING: message was not integrity protected
gpg: decryption forced to fail!

I’ve practiced by sending myself an encypted file and then decrypting it-works fine. Am I missing something basic here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

oh, unlucky that you hit this with your first file. Such files are very rare and are an indication that they were encrypted with a bad software or bad configuration.

It’s explained and a workaround listed under:

https://wiki.gnupg.org/TroubleShooting#Decryption_Failure_with_Gpg4win-3.1.2_or_later

Let us know if you need more help with that.
Do you know which software encrypted the file?

Again, It’s a horrible user experience that you hit that with your first file but at some point we just have to say “No” if Software is using OpenPGP in a less secure manner by shunning an old and simple protection mechanism.

Best Regards,
Andre
